Po Nagar Cham Towers - Nha Trang

Po Nagar Cham Towers Nha Trang is a unique architectural complex of Champa culture, was built around the 8th century to the 13th century - the period of the Hindu is prosperous, and almost intact to currently, became a popular destination of Nha Trang tourism.

Po Nagar Cham Towers Nha Trang located atop a small hill about 10 meters high, close to the banks of the Cai River. The overall architecture of the towers consists of 3 floors:

1. The bottom floor: horizontal ground, with only traces of the gate tower. From here, there are stone steps leads to the middle floor.

2. The middle floor: also called Mandapa ie guest houses for pilgrims resting, prepare the gifts for worship. Mandapa is 20m long, 15m wide, consist four rows of octagonal columns, with 10 large and 12 small columns. In the body of large columns have mortise, symmetrical and flush with the top of the small columns.

3. The top floor: the towers are located here. Prominent front is the main large tower Po Nagar, with 23m high and the following characteristics:

- The facade of tower wall was decorated by the vivid sculptures as dancers, boatman, milled rice or hunt with bow... On top of the tower with a statue of Shiva riding Nandi ox, and the animal statues as swan, goats, elephants...

- Inside is Po Nagar goddess statue carved in black granite, seated on a lotus, the back based on a large stone with Bodhi leaf shape. This is a masterpiece of Cham sculpture, a harmonious combination of technical circular object and embossed.


Until now, technical building of Po Nagar Cham Towers Nha Trang still a mystery. Although many studies have been done, but cannot satisfactorily explain: how the bricks can stacked snugly and steady without any adhesive.
