Phung Hung old house - Hoi An ancient town
Phung Hung old house (address - 04 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street) was built over 100 years ago, during the prosperous development of Hoi An. The house is also one of the most beautiful form of architecture in Hoi An ancient town. The special structure has a high wooden attic and wide corridors around, showing the development of technical architecture and the interference between Asian styles at that time.
The first owner of Phung Hung old house is a Vietnamese businessman, selling forestry products such as cinnamon, pepper, salt, silk, ceramics, glass... He named the house is Phung Hung, it means the business expectation is always thriving. Currently, the house owner is the 8th generation descendant, those continue living here and preserve this ancient house.
Phung Hung old house is a combination of the three architecture styles: Vietnam, Japan and China. In particular, balcony and door system is Chinese architecture. The roof of the nave is Japanese architecture. Grillage systems, crossbeam, spars, roof of facade and backside are Vietnam architecture.
Phung Hung old house is also a popular type of trader houses in the 19th century in urban Vietnam: tubular, wide facade, mainly wood materials. The pillars of the house are 80 ironwood columns, all placed on the flat rock to avoid contact with the ground for prolonging the life of the wood.
- The door style can be disassembled, easy to move. The roof is yin-yang tiles, with grooves, keep the house ventilated all year round. In addition, the department supports the eaves are carved ornate carp. Carp is a symbol of luck with the Chinese, power with Japanese, prosperity with Vietnamese.
