Museum of folklore in Hoi An ancient town

Hoi An Folklore Museum (address - 33 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street) is one of the museums with special theme in Hoi An. With images, original artifacts and demonstration activities, the museum show a long history of culture, creation, contributions of local generations during construction and developing of Hoi An.

Hoi An Folklore Museum is also a typical old house in Hoi An, with 57m long, 9m wide, two-storey, wood floors, two facades. Here on display 484 artifacts, with 4 prominent themes:

1. Folk shaping art in Hoi An is expressed through the sculptures, carving wood, decorative porcelain, worship statue, bronze statue, terracotta, folk paintings... reflects the talent and ingenuity of artisan generations in Hoi An.


2. Folk performance art in Hoi An :

- Bai Choi: is a lively folk game, fun and popular in Hoi An, attract many people, especially in the Vietnamese New Year or major events.

- Mua Thien Cau: is a form of dances mascot pretty special, handed down from the long time ago, and become a featured folk dance in Hoi An. The dance associated with meaning: exorcism, blessing, good harvests, and particularly associated with Tet Trung Thu such a profound image in the hearts of many people in Hoi An.

- Hat Ba Trao: is a form of folk performance, with an important role in the spiritual life of fishermen in Hoi An, and are held annually at the fishing festival or whale ceremony, pray safe on the immense sea and catching bumper.


3. The traditional village inextricably linked to Hoi An as: trade, sea fishing, agriculture, traditional medicine, Kim Bong carpentry, Thanh Ha pottery; and especially traditional sewing, attract visitors by fast service.

- In addition, on the 1st floor of Hoi An Folklore Museum also showcases some products of the traditional villages such as lanterns, silk, paper picture, weaving mat,... with performance activities and introduced to visitors.

- Traditional costumes in Hoi An and lifestyle expresses cultural traditions of the communities composed of many layers, many different origins in Hoi An.

- Wedding custom in Hoi An has common elements of the nation, and also specific characteristics of local. A full wedding here includes many ceremonies with step by step; however, depending on the circumstances of each family, these ceremonies are not necessarily complete and can reduce some, just keep the main ceremonies.


* Hoi An Folklore Museum is open from 7:00 to 21:00 every day. Particularly on the 20th of every month, the museum is closed to perform maintenance.
